Like many animal rescues, Bark Ark was started to honor the memory of a much loved dog, Nola.
Nola was special, one of those dogs that touch your heart. She taught many things during her short time on earth, including how to have the courage to persevere. How to have the strength to stay the course, to do what needs to be done, no matter what the odds.
Bark Ark is a new rescue. As much as we thought we would help the bully dogs in our area, we were simply not prepared for the overwhelming numbers of calls and emails that would come pouring in, day after day. Stories of wonderful dogs that needed help, dogs whose lives would end simply because of their breed if they could not be rescued. It has caused us enormous sadness that we have not been able to help so many of these, so many that had no where else to turn.
But with each day, with each story, the purpose became clearer. A rescue was simply not enough. We needed to create a place that could provide comfort and safety for many deserving animals, for their entire lives if necessary. And so the idea of Bullyhaven was born.
This is our goal- to create a sanctuary which can provide refuge for many dogs, from puppies to seniors. A place that can be short term or long term or forever, depending on the need of the animal. A place where animals can learn and grow and show everyone what they can become. A place that will not only be solace for animals but for the people who visit.
We have the land- we are now on thirteen beautiful acres in Clermont County. We have put up the first fence and started the first building. But we have so much more to do, and so many innocent dogs are waiting to be saved. We need your help to make this dream a reality.
